There's probably a lot of confusion that transfers the supposed etymology of "abba" (baby sounds) into it's meaning and thus leads to the false distinction.<br /><br />There are other good reasons that we know God is intimate with us. For example, John 1:1 and 1:14, John 8, Romans 8, Hebrews 1. Probably those who always talk about buddy Jesus need more work on honoring their father. Likewise those who treat God as a distant force need to feel the love of their "Daddy". I suspect both words cover this range just like the English "father".
